Wanted: Expansion for Guelph Swap Shop June 4, 2008
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I’d like to see membership numbers double, triple, quadruple…
I tried Press Release, Letter to the Editor…both have had no results. Have posted on Kijiji, and on Freecycle Cafe.
I am wondering about a poster campaign, t-shirt campaign.
Thoughts from our members? I’d really like to see this grow ![]()
I suggest reposting on Kijiji every few days and listing in other catagories including garage sale section. The newspaper doesnt make any money off thier classifieds when people swap things so they may not want to promote for you. I suggest putting an ad in their classified section as well as using the Penny Saver. The city officials however may be willing to help promote for you. Also try leaving posters at libraries and community centers. Good Luck!!
I was just wondering why my swaps are not being shown ?Am I doing somthing wong?
Thanks
Good ideas! Thanks “COOLCARS”
“Shopqueen4U” - You need to hit the “PUBLISH” button to complete a post. Hope that helps.
The neighbourhood groups offer clothing closets that give away free clothing. Maybe somebody should address their board meetings to provide info and background and then post flyers there for users to take home. Onward Willow, Parkwood Gardens; Two Rivers, Brant. Willow West
Um, Thrift shops, vv, places like that.
City of guelph website, in the recycling section maybe? or somewhere on there?
Ah, Find someone in Radio to plug us, someone has to know someone who works for the local stations?
Create a launch event, charge a fee for tickets and donate it to a local charity, hence creating hype for the charity and the ’swap shop’. Media would likely cover this more if done this way.
or
Create a mass garage sale event and donate proceeds to local charities, getting coverage again I think would be easier…I do think though you have to get a permit from the city to hold a mass garage sale…not sure.
Used goods stores like :that kitty clothing place downtown, used furniture and antique places… local flea market or antique market organizers, maybe put a poster or ‘leave behind postcard type’ promos.
And just getting members to email about it to people, not just on facebook, but generally…pass the word out kinda thing.
hope this generates some ideas
HUGS! Mandi
KelKat sends meassages to people who’ve posted something on Freecycle to advertise SwapShop and I’ve had others do it for other groups as well. No complaints that I’ve seen about this kind of advertising.
Local churches would likely hang posters for advertising & might publish in their newsletters.
Not sure about the garage sale idea since we’re a SwapShop, what about a Swap Meet in a school or church parking lot so people understand what we’re about?
I added your logo to http://www.blogguelph.com. Hope that helps drive traffic. Please link back if you can.
Cath, how many members are on Guelph Swap Shop these days?
